The Cabin

Don't have a clue as to what I am doing, but, hey, what's new.. Will make feeble attempt to post something of tremendous value, er, umm, okay, okay, would you believe some old pictures?
My parents and Grandparents constructed two identical cabins on a small dirt road about 5-1/2 miles outside of Palmer, Alaska.
All materials and labor were "out of pocket" and all tools with the exception of an old McCullough chainsaw, were hand powered... Logs were joined together by drilling a hole about half way through the log, then, with the aid of a "drift punch" were spiked together.
My brother and I aided in the construction by mostly staying out of the way and helping peel the bark off the spruce logs by use of a drawknife. Mosquitoes were horrible, we were all lucky we didn't poison ourselves by overdosing on deet & some kind of powder that required lighting with a match, then trying to stay within it's protective smoke screen.....
